John McCormick is a technology- based artist and researcher with a major interest in human movement. John has collaborated on works worldwide, including at peak festivals ISEA, ZERO1SJ, SIGGRAPH, Melbourne Festival, Venice Biennale, Siggraph Asia, Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) London, Ars Electronica, Monaco Dance Forum, and Art Science Museum Singapore. His current research engages with robots as collaborative performing partners and the use of deep learning and neural networks to enable non-human systems to co-create and collaborate with humans.
John is doing very interesting work at the intersection of robotics and the performing arts that relates in many ways to what Dramaturgy for Devices is doing. We are happy that we found a moment for him to present his research project Moving with Robots (about how robots navigate work situations with humans, collaborating with dancers to do so) and his work on Future Noh in which he looks at Noh dancers and what can be learned from them for the behavior of robots.
